Départ de Kathmandu

Ce mercredi 27 avril, après moult aventure, je repartais de bon matin pour le centre de visa indien à Kathmandu. Finalement vers 10h40, j’obtiens le précieux sésame. Je peux maintenant foncer à mon hôtel, récupérer mon sac et attraper le bus pour l’aéroport en souhaitant que la grève du jour (revendication d’autonomie d’une région) n’affecte pas les transports.

Mon souhait sera exaucé. pas de problème particulier, au bout d’environ 30 min, nous sommes à l’aéroport. Je découvre l’aéroport « international » de Kathmandu … (un peu petit pour le titre). J’avais espéré avoir un peu de temps, mais après un laborieux check-in (longues files d’attente), le boarding est annoncé rapidement (1h avant le vol) et de nombreux contrôle de sécurité meublent le peu de temps libre (après l’immigration, avant le bus et avant l’avion – je ne sais pas si c’est systématique, si c’est juste pour l’Inde ou pour tout autre raison ???)

Retour à Delhi

Je passe en transit à Delhi mais mon billet prévoyait seulement 1h15 entre mes 2 vols. Du fait du retard de mon avion et de l’absence de transfert automatique de mes bagages (sans doute dû à une correspondance vol international – domestique, ce qui implique passage à la douane), je rate mon deuxième avion. Heureusement, la compagnie aérienne me replanifie sur le vol suivant une heure plus tard. Cela me laisse à peine le temps de passer de nouveaux contrôles de sécurité, acheter quelques snacks avant le boarding.

Arrivée à Bangalore

21h. Enfin, le sud de l’Inde. Fatigue et nuit tombée (malgré mes tentatives de dormir dans l’avion) me font faire quelques erreurs et j’accepte un hôtel un peu trop cher (même pas Internet/wifi, une honte pour la silicon valley indienne) mais situé près de la gare de bus de city et de la gare ferroviaire.

Lendemain, tour rapide d’un quartier guère touristique, mais surtout sale et puant (peut-être l’odeur est accentuée par la chaleur du début de mousson mais en tout cas les rues sont sales et beaucoup de canalisation d’égout sont à découvert. beaucoup plus perceptible qu’à New Delhi) et achat d’un billet ‘unreserved seat’ pour Mysore. C’est sans doute le moins cher de tout mes billets de train (42Rs < 1€) mais j’ai un peu d’appréhension sur le fait ou pas d’avoir un siège (ce qui ne m’aurait guère semblé possible en Inde du nord).

Finalement, je prends un train vers 10h30 et comble du luxe, j’arrive à trouver une banquette complète pour moi. Voyage sans anicroche pendant environ 3h30. Je réfléchis à mon court séjour en Inde du sud et je décide de concentrer l’essentiel de mon séjour près de mon prochain port de départ (Trivandrum) à Varkala (chill out) et Neyyar (réserve), le reste en express, 1 jour ou moins.

Mysore

Je me pose à l’hôtel avec le même syndrome que Bangalore. trop cher mais bon et même pas de free wifi.

Visite rapide du palais du Maharaja, tour en ville et information auprès du central bus stand pour se rendre à Kochi

Lendemain, tour au Devaraja market et au jaganmohan … avant d’attendre la fin de journée pour les départs de bus vers Kochi (seulement en fin de journée: 17:30, 18:30, 21:30 pour 10h de voyage => seule les deux dernier est intéressant et permet d’arriver à une heure où les ferries fonctionnent et permettent de rallier Fort-Cochin).


Kochi

Encore un arrêt express d’une journée mais cela sera suffisant pour un tour rapide des principaux sites:

  • Chinese fish net
  • Église St François
  • Basilique Santa Cruz
  • Palais Mattancherry, en particulier les 3 salles avec les murs peints avec des scènes du Ramayana (photos interdites … sic)

Prochain arrêt, Varkala et détente

Kathmandu to India

In a similar way than previous days I had to go to the indian visa centre the day of my flight back to India. Finally, I managed to get the re-entry endorsement around 10:40am. I rushed to my hotel to recover my bag and catched the bus hoping there will be no problem with the strike of the day (some region’s autonomy stuff). Fears not transformed, after 30min, I am at the « international » airport … It does not really look like an international airport even with immigration control and a lot of security checks. On the latter, it seems to me there was more than usual. I don’t know if it is because of India destination, or something else ???

With visa centre, I didn’t had much time to wait. boarding is announced and I left Nepal.

Flight to Bangalore

I have a small stop at Delhi. So small (1h15) that I miss the transfert as I needed to go through customs and get my luggages (no automatic transfert, probably because transfert between international and domestic flight). A new ticket is issued for me for a plane a hour later. It only gave me time to buy some snacks and go to the boarding gate.

Finaly at 21h of the same day, I arrived at Bangalore. Exhausted and with night, I barely managed to find a hotel (after thought, really too expensive and without Internet, a shame for Bangalore !) in the district of the railway/bus station. The day after, I made a quick tour of a not touristic district and took a train ticket for Mysore. Probably the cheapest ticket I had ever bought 42Rs, less than 1 Euro. It’s an ‘unreserved seat’, but I have no choice as I cannot take reserved ticket for the same day (at least not before 3pm).

Good luck, when taking the train, I managed to have a full couch for me ! I rested and thought about the next days, trying to have more time in a single place, Varkala, that many people advise me for chilling.

Mysore

Same error than Bangalore, I took a too expensive hotel and without free wifi …

Else, I had a quick visit of Maharaja palace and after checking hours for Kochi bus at the central bus stand.

The day after, in early morning, I visited Devaraja market and jaganmohan before going back at the bus stand for the only bus to Kochi (17:30, 18:30 and 21:30 with 10h of journey => it’s better to take the latest two, even if the 18:30 arrives around 4am, because ferry should be active to Fort Kochi – supposed so … at least at 7am, it was).

Kochi

Last express stop before Varkala, only one day. Quick visit of the main icons of Fort Kochi:

  • Chinese fish net
  • St François Church
  • Santa Cruz Basilica
  • Mattancherry/Dutch palace, most notably 3 rooms with painted wall (part of Ramayana) (photo not allowed …)

Next stop, Varkala and chilling 🙂
