Présenté comme la ville des sports extrêmes, j’ai eu la chance de profiter de la ville avec sans doute moins de touristes qu’habituellement. Le proche volcan Tungurahua ayant fait quelques siennes auparavant, cela a semble-t-il dissuadé certains voyageurs, même si les locaux disent que la situation est banale et sans danger (ce qui semble confirmer par les bulletins officiels [1]).

  • Tour des chutes d’eau: canopy, Manto de la novia (~40m),

  • Tour en rafting,

  • Tour en canyoning,

  • Iglesia, centre-ville, thermes,

  • Trek Mirador Bellavista, Mirador del volcan (malheureusement vu pas dégagé ce matin-là … contrairement à l’après-midi), Mirador de la virgen,

  • Volcan Tungurahua,

  • Noël: principale particularité équatorienne, les défilés d’enfants costumés qui se produisent le 24-25 et selon, les jours d’avant. Le jeu consistant à réussir à voir ces multiples petits groupes de défilés qui n’ont aucune programmation officielle. Donc on ne sait pas où et quand, c’est pas grand Banos, mais quand même …

Météo très changeante comme pour le reste du pays (à l’exception du très chaud Guayaquil) alternant nuages, soleil, petite pluie, mais jamais très gênant.

Visit

It’s know as extreme sport town and usually very touristy. It was probably less for me as there was some activities or nearby Tungurahua volcano and it seems to make tourists a bit less attracted by city even if locals said that situation was common and without danger (seems confirmed by official news [1]).

  • Waterfalls tours,
  • Rafting,
  • Canyoning,
  • Iglesia, downtown,
  • Trek Mirador Bellavista, Mirador del volcan (sadly, when I did the trek, there was nothing to see, too cloudy … a lot better in the afternnon when I was back in town …), Mirador de la virgen,
  • Volcano Tungurahua,
  • Noël: here, for Christmas, you can see group of costumed children parading the streets on the 24th-25th, sometimes before. The little problem is there is no official schedule and you have to look for them, somewhere, sometime …

Weather was very changing like most of the country (outside of very hot Guayaquil) switching clouds, sun, rain but never very annoying.
