Préambule

Après mainte discussions et recherche online (et il y a de la lecture – Pg Canada), je suis parti pour faire ces 2 parcs en location de voiture pour 5j. En bus, la découverte des parcs aurait été trop limitante, en particulier pour la columbia icefield (alias icefiels parkway ou Hwy 93).

J’ai eu la chance d’avoir un très beau temps pour les 5j, un peu de vent froid les après-midi mais tout à fait bien, mode fin d’été. Par contre, les locaux m’ont répété que octobre est un mois d’incertitude: il peut très bien faire super beau comme avoir des tempêtes de neige et à un moment, les températures chutent de 10-30°C marquant le passage en hiver.
Comme de bien normal avec le beau temps, le parc et les hostels (en particulier le dimanche) n’étaient pas vraiment vide. Ca me fait imaginer que l’été, ca doit vraiment être bondé et les hostels sont proche du format australien que j’avais expérimenté à Melbourne (grosse usine… premier hostel que je croise avec un frigo format pièce complète/restaurant). Certains trails sont accessibles depuis les villages de Jasper et Banff.

Introduction

After many discussions/thoughts and online search (and there is a lot – Pg Canada), I decided to rent a car 5 days to visit those renowned parks. In bus only, the discovery of the parks would have been a lot more limited, especially for the columbia icefield (also named icefiels parkway or Hwy 93)

I was lucky to get a very good weather all the time, a bit chilly wind the afternoon but all in all more end of summer than winter start. But I was repeatedely warned by locals that october is a month of transition: can be very sunny or get a snow blizzard and at a time, temperature is falling of 10-30°C in a few days.
As a consequency of good weather and on week-end, parks and hostels (especially the sunday) was not really empty. I barely imagined as it should be crowded in summer and as hostels, are similar to some australian one I had in Melbourne (a factory…), I’m not sure I would like it.
Some trails are accessible from Banff/Jasper village (walking only).
